General Summary:

 

The Golden West IT team is responsible for developing, deploying, enhancing and maintaining IT infrastructure for 340+ personnel across South Dakota. This infrastructure includes server, virtualization, storage, network, wireless, backups, desktops, laptops, databases and applications.

 

The Information Technology (IT) Manager provides technical leadership for a team of IT professionals, including system administrators and desktop support personnel. This role includes project planning & coordination, management of day-to-day operations, budget development, disaster recovery planning and the implementation of cybersecurity protocols. It additionally requires strong communication skills, technical expertise, team leadership abilities, attention to detail, focus on quality and an organized approach to ensuring end-user satisfaction.

 

The technical aspects of this position include administration, set-up, maintenance, implementation, configuration, coordination, control, troubleshooting, security, and usage monitoring of IT systems, along with the development of specialized system procedures. Additionally, the IT Manager provides the monitoring, primary response and intervention for information technology related to security incidents and violations, along with disaster recovery. The IT Manager is expected to keep current with new software, security and network monitoring technologies and IT best practices in order to further business process improvement.

 

Essential Job Functions:

  • Manages the day-to-day operations of IT systems and provides work direction to the technical staff.
  • Provides IT project management in order to deliver well-understood, high quality and easy-to-use solutions to the end-user.
  • Develops technology solutions, options and recommendations to meet the business needs of the organization.
  • Provides leadership, guidance, coaching and supervision for the team members in the Information Technology Department.
  • Provides assistance as needed in the installation and troubleshooting of IT systems, including server, storage, networking and applications to enable the achievement of operational goals.
  • Researches, recommends and designs infrastructure for servers and associated systems.
  • Implements policies and procedures to ensure file and system integrity through backup and disaster recovery planning, along with security procedures.
  • Evaluates and recommends purchases of IT equipment and software.
  • Performs and/or oversees upgrades of server systems for the various departmental software applications.
  • Maintains and audits site licensing and required documentation for the organization.
  • Works as a team member with other technical staff, such as desktop and server support personnel to ensure connectivity and compatibility between systems.
  • Develops tools to support computer infrastructure and trains other departmental users in the use of new software or hardware systems.
  • Some travel is required for this position.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

  • Knowledge of leadership techniques, to include setting goals, recognizing employees, holding crucial conversations, fostering collaboration and inspiring a vision.
  • Ability to effectively communicate on both the technical and the management levels in both oral and written form.

  • Skill in managing complex IT projects across the entire lifecycle, including scoping, design, development, implementation, training, delivery and ongoing maintenance.
  • Knowledge of Microsoft desktop and server operating systems.
  • Knowledge of Microsoft System Center Configuration Manager (SCCM).
  • Knowledge of virtualization with VMware and Hyper-V.
  • Knowledge of LAN/WAN and wireless technologies.
  • Understanding of the TCP/IP stack.
  • Knowledge of IP addressing techniques and basic VLAN understanding.
  • Knowledge of backup solutions.
  • Knowledge of virus and spyware removal techniques.
  • Knowledge of troubleshooting both server and desktop software applications.
  • Knowledge of Microsoft applications and concepts including Microsoft Office, Active Directory, DNS, DHCP, and Exchange.
  • Knowledge of SQL and IIS.
  • Ability to set up, operate, and maintain Microsoft server and desktop systems.
  • Ability to solve problems and make good judgment calls.
  • Ability to set up and configure server infrastructure including RAID, iSCSI, SANs, clustering, and virtualization technologies.
  • Ability to troubleshoot and resolve infrastructure issues including web, disk, server, network, and database performance issues.
  • Ability to prioritize and complete multiple projects.
  • Ability to work with frequent interruptions in a fast-paced environment.
  • Ability to operate MS Office productivity applications and office equipment.
  • Ability to read, analyze, and interpret common technical journals.

Education and/or Experience:

 

Degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, Computer Engineering and/or related fields, or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Must have direct experience with Microsoft computer operating systems and associated software. Project management and supervisory experience required.

 

Certifications, Licenses, Registrations:

 

Must have, or be able to obtain, and maintain a valid South Dakota driver’s license, have an excellent driving record and be insurable under the Company’s insurance policy. Advanced Microsoft and/or networking certifications preferred.

 

Other Qualifications and/or Credentials:

 

Advanced knowledge of server infrastructure and large-scale software installations and deployments.

Working Conditions:
