General Summary:

The Solutions Architect (SA) is a key technical resource at Golden West Technologies. There are three primary functions that the SA role fulfills.

Pre-Sales Engineering. The Solutions Architect works closely with the Account Executive to understand the business need and drivers behind technology purchases. The SA then develops a solution for the customer that meets those needs and conveys key components and specifications to the Customer Vendor Advocate who is responsible for quoting. In addition, the Solutions Architect is responsible for overseeing technical aspects of technology assessments performed during the sales process.

Technical Expert. The Solutions Architect is responsible for mentoring/training Golden West Technologies staff on relevant solutions and applications. In addition, the SA will prepare and conduct periodic training sessions on relevant technology for small customer groups. Technical expertise is maintained via certifications, lab, and real-world experience.

Product Vetting/Product Line Management. The Solutions Architect is responsible for vetting the technical viability of new products and services that Golden West is considering offering. Once a product or service is offered, the SA is responsible to train technical staff on its installation/maintenance and to develop technical documentation around the offering.

Essential Job Functions:
  • Works closely with sales team to provide technical solutions that address the customer’s short and long term needs.
  • Leads the technical portion of baseline technology assessments, to include documentation and presentation of results.
  • Serves as a resource for internal technical staff on complex IT problems.
  • Develops and delivers presentations around Golden West Technologies offerings.
  • Represents solutions to customers at various public events such as conferences, seminars, etc.
  • Leads trainings to internal technical staff on Golden West Technologies offerings.
  • Guide and mentor technical staff to help build a cohesive and technically skilled team.
  • Aides in researching new products and offerings.
  • Required to travel throughout sales territory as qualified through the sales process.
Other Responsibilities:
  • Performs all other related duties as assigned by Management.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
  • In-depth knowledge of Microsoft Desktop, Server operating systems, and Hyper-V.
  • In-depth knowledge of Microsoft server applications including WSUS, Active Directory, DNS, DHCP, SQL, IIS, and System Center.
  • Knowledge of Microsoft licensing models.
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office 365.
  • Knowledge of LAN, WAN and wireless technologies.
  • Knowledge of IP Subnetting and VLAN/QOS configuration.
  • Knowledge of backup solutions and rotation techniques.
  • Knowledge of VMware.
  • Must be able to effectively communicate technology and product positioning to both business and technical users.
  • Ability to author technical reports.
  • Public speaking ability and strong presentation skills.
  • Ability to find creative and adaptable approaches to eliminate sales obstacles.
  • Organizational and analytical skills.
  • Comfortable in a dynamic technical atmosphere with rapidly expanding customer base.
  • Ability to respond professionally to inquiries, RFP’s, RFI’s, and emails.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Knowledge of company policies, procedures and office protocol.
  • Knowledge of company products and services.
  • Ability to learn new skills and technology to accomplish the goals of the company.
  • Skilled with the ability to work in a team environment.
Education and/or Experience:

Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience in network administration. Minimum of five year’s relevant experience in the technology field. Experience and/or familiarity with latest technology products and services required. Pre-sales engineering experience is preferred, but not required.

Certifications, Licenses, Registrations:

Advanced Microsoft or networking certification preferred, but not required. Example: MCS-E Windows Server 2016, HP Master ASE

Must have, or be able to obtain, and maintain a valid South Dakota driver’s license, have an excellent driving record and be insurable under the Company’s insurance policy.

Working Conditions:

Good working conditions with the absence of disagreeable conditions. Climate controlled building with adequate lighting and space. The noise level in the work environment is usually quiet.
