General Summary:

 

A Field Service Technician I performs install and repair of Voice, Broadband, and Cable TV services for residential and business customers. Provides remote hands assistance for other groups in the Company.

 

Essential Job Functions:

  • Install and repair the Company’s Voice, Broadband, and Cable TV services and equipment for residential and business customers.
  • Communicate and coordinate with customers in a professional manner to ensure the Company’s customer service expectations and commitments are met.
  • Installation and maintenance of customer premise equipment including Modems, ONTs, Residential Gateways, Set Top Boxes, Batteries, and related equipment.
  • Assists with maintenance on outside plant facilities from the Central Office to the customer premise. Wires copper and fiber lines on distribution frames as required.
  • Installation and repair customer premise drop wires, station protections and network interface devices using appropriate tools.
  • Completes all assigned work using OSS tools, systems and processes including completing related paperwork, job notes, and other documents and actions required by the Company.
  • Provide remote hands assistance in the installation and maintenance of Company’s business products and services including key systems and associated equipment including automatic answering devices, facsimile terminals, coupling devices, automatic dialers, and paging and intercom systems.
  • Perform maintenance, cutover, and scheduling of plant activity in accordance with Company guidelines.
  • Attend and participate in job safety and other training programs.
  • May locate existing underground cables as needed for contractors or excavators.

 

Other Responsibilities:

 

  • Perform all other related duties as assigned by Management.

 

 

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

 

  • Knowledge and understanding of telecommunications outside plant including copper and fiber.
  • Basic knowledge and understanding of Personal Computers and Customer Premise Equipment.
  • Knowledge and understanding of cable counts and color-code.
  • Basic Knowledge of telecommunications outside plant equipment operations and maintenance.
  • Working knowledge and understanding of cable counts and color-code.
  • Skill in operating service equipment including various hand tools and testing equipment.
  • Ability to read and interpret technical documents such as maps, staking sheets, and operating and maintenance instruction manuals.
  • Ability to install and repair Voice, Broadband, and Cable TV equipment on customer drop and customer premise.
  • Ability to communicate with co-workers and various business contacts in a professional and courteous manner.
  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as maps, staking sheets, and operating and maintenance instruction manuals.
  • Ability to pay close attention to detail.
  • Ability to evaluate, test and repair sophisticated equipment.
  • Ability to work independently and make sound technical decisions using information at hand.

 

Education and/or Experience:

 

  • High School diploma, GED or equivalent required.

 

 

Certifications, Licenses, Registrations:

 

  • Must have, or be able to obtain, and maintain a valid South Dakota driver’s license, have an excellent driving record and be insurable under the Company’s policy carrier.
