General Summary:

The Internet Solutions department creates, operates, and maintains wholesale services for ISP’s and their subscribers. Some of our services include email & website hosting and Radius authentication for DSL circuits. We develop solutions to provide management and automated deployment of services for our customers.

A level 1 System Administrator is knowledgeable in systems development and infrastructure management and has a desire to expand that knowledge. The primary goal is to learn the objectives and needs of the team and develop job skills and knowledge to contribute to the team’s effort. Daily activities consist of working on assigned server management tasks and reviewing work with senior members of the team to aid in the learning process and ensure accuracy of work.


Essential Job Functions:

  • Work closely with all members of the Engineering and Operations teams to learn the services we provide
  • Operate and maintain the core infrastructure to support services
  • Monitor a services alerting system
  • Work trouble tickets to resolve customer issues
  • Contribute to projects, adhering to established scope and timelines
  • Participate in a rotating on-call schedule


Other Responsibilities:

  • Perform all other related duties as assigned by Management


Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

  • Skilled in problem solving, troubleshooting and finding resolutions
  • Skilled in Linux Operating systems; i.e. Ubuntu, Debian, RHEL
  • Knowledge of infrastructure automation platforms; i.e. Puppet, Ansible, etc…
  • Knowledge of networking technologies and protocols; i.e. TCP/IP, SSL/TLS, Radius
  • Knowledge of Relational and Document based databases systems
  • Ability to use source code management systems to manage, track, and resolve issues in server configurations
  • Ability to self-manage assigned tasks and complete tasks timely
  • Knowledge of back-end development; PHP, Perl, C# etc...
  • Knowledge of front-end development; JavaScript, AJAX, JQuery, etc…
  • Knowledge of RESTful API design principles and methods
  • Strong written and verbal communications skills
  • Ability to learn and abide by Company policies and procedures
  • Ability to communicate with co-workers and customers in a professional and courteous manner
  • Ability to learn new skills and technology to accomplish the goals of the company


Education and/or Experience:

B.S. degree in Computer Science or ability to demonstrate equivalent experience and education


Certifications, Licenses, Registrations:

Must have, or be able to obtain, and maintain a valid South Dakota driver’s license, have an excellent driving record and be insurable under the Company’s insurance policy


Other Qualifications and/or Credentials:

Demonstrate existing or past contributions to projects on Github, BitBucket, Gitlab, etc…

Working Conditions:

Good working conditions with the absence of disagreeable conditions. Climate controlled building with adequate lighting and space. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
