General Summary:
 

Performs maintenance on Company facilities including mechanical equipment and structures, as well as buildings and grounds. Evaluates Company buildings and grounds to insure proper upkeep and maintenance including environmental systems. Assists Facility Supervisor in the planning of maintenance and repairs to Company facilities including advising on annual work plans and budget utilizing acquired project management skills. Duties may include welding, machine and equipment repair, carpentry, plumbing and electrical work. Loads, unloads and stocks materials including plant supplies, tools and equipment. Operates forklift, skid-steer loader, tele-handler and similar equipment.

 

Essential Job Functions:

 

  • Maintains mechanical equipment and structures including environmental systems.

 

  • Maintains buildings by inspecting and repairing plumbing, electrical, building fixtures, and woodwork as needed.

 

  • Maintains grounds through mowing, weed control, snow removal and disposing of trash.

 

  • Repairs yards and fences as needed.

 

  • Repair and possibly construct outbuildings and storage sheds using hand and power tools.

 

  • Assists the Facility Supervisor with annual work plan and budget preparation.

 

  • Performs site surveys on buildings and grounds within Golden West service territory.

 

  • Interprets blueprints and schematics for buildings and systems.

 

  • Performs routine maintenance on company fleet vehicles.
 
  • Maintains accurate records and history of maintenance and repair of facilities.

 

  • Loads supplies, tools and equipment to be dispatched for scheduled installation and repairs.

 

  • Operates heavy equipment including forklift, skid-steer loader, boom truck and similar equipment.

 

  • Ensures materials are properly received, moved, stocked, accounted for and protected.
 
  • Extensive travel required to company properties, facilities and grounds.

 

  • Must live in Golden West exchange.

 

 

Other Responsibilities:

 

  • Performs all other related duties as assigned by Management.

 

 

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

 

  • Proficient in use of computer and the various programs such as excel, word, email, etc.

 

  • Knowledge of electrical and plumbing systems
 
  • Knowledge of general building and grounds repair and maintenance.
 
  • Knowledge of company policies and procedures.

 

  • General construction, project management experience, engineering, contracting knowledge, and working with service personnel and vendors.

 

  • Ability to lead construction projects involving facilities and grounds.

 

  • Knowledge of warehouse coordination and distribution.

 

  • Knowledge of company products and distribution.

 

  • Skills in operating various hand and power tools.

 

  • Knowledge of handling Safety Data Sheets (SDS) and materials and storage.

 

  • Skills in operating various grounds and maintenance equipment including generators, mower, weed eater, snow blower, forklift, skid-steer loader, boom truck, truck and trailer.

 

  • Ability to communicate with co-workers and various business contacts in a professional and courteous manner.
 
  • Ability to organize and prioritize multiple work assignments and provide direction to other technicians.

 

  • Ability to follow oral and written instructions.

 

  • Ability to pay close attention to detail.

 

  • Ability to work independently.

 

  • Ability to make sound decisions using information at hand.

 

  • Ability to understand and verify requisitions, packing slips, and other records.

 

  • Ability to effectively function as a team player.

 

  • Ability to acquire and maintain a valid SD Department of Transportation Commercial Driver's License and be insurable under Golden West's automobile insurance policy guidelines.

 

 

Education and/or Experience:
 

High school diploma or equivalent, plus two to five years of specialized training in electrical, plumbing and/or HVAC. Previous construction or facilities maintenance experience preferred.

 

Certifications, Licenses, Registrations:
 

Must have or be able to obtain and maintain a valid SD Commercial driver’s license, have an excellent driving record, and be insurable under the company’s insurance policy.
