General Summary:

The Accountant is responsible for performing a wide range of accounting functions to support the financial operations of the Subsidiary Company. Key duties include preparing and posting journal entries, conducting account analysis, and managing the accounts payable process—including authorizing, coding, and processing vendor invoices. The role also involves reconciling credit card purchases and statements, performing general accounting tasks, and providing clerical and backup support for accounting operations and other roles within the team. This position requires strong attention to detail, excellent organizational skills, and the ability to work independently as well as collaboratively within a team.

 

Essential Job Functions:

  • Assists with preparing, reviewing, and posting journal entries in accordance with generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP) and established internal controls.
  • Performs accounts payable duties in accordance with generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP) and established internal controls.
  • Perform account analysis and reconciliations to ensure accuracy and completeness of financial data.
  • Reviews and reconciles vendor invoices, ensuring proper authorization and approval processes are followed.
  • Codes vendor invoices and enters data into the accounting system for payment processing and recordkeeping.
  • Processes payments in the accounting software, obtaining necessary approvals and ensuring timely payment of invoices according to due dates.
  • Respond to vendor inquiries and resolve payment issues promptly and professionally.
  • Reconcile credit card purchases and monthly statements, ensuring accuracy, proper documentation, and timely resolution of discrepancies.
  • Manages company cell phone accounts and reconciles related billing statements.
  • Assists with maintaining the general ledger and financial records by preparing and posting journal entries and conducting transaction analysis for accuracy and compliance.
  • Supports accounts receivable functions, including recording cash receipts and reviewing outstanding receivable balances.
  • Maintains fixed asset records and ensures accurate tracking of asset acquisitions, disposals, and depreciation.
  • Prepares and submits financial reports required by taxing authorities and regulatory agencies.
  • Maintains and updates a variety of Excel worksheets on a daily, monthly, and annual basis.
  • Prepares month-end reports for accounts payable, accounts receivable, and inventory.
  • Provide clerical support such as filing, data entry, and maintaining accounting files and records.
  • Collaborate with other departments to gather financial information and ensure smooth workflow.
  • Support internal and external audits by preparing requested documentation and reports.
  • Must be able to work on-site at a Golden West designated reporting location.

 

Other Responsibilities:

  • Performs all other related duties as assigned by Management.

 

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

  • Strong working knowledge of generally accepted accounting principles and practices.
  • Knowledge of Company services/products, policies, and procedures.
  • Knowledge of general office procedures, practices, and equipment.
  • Advanced knowledge and skills in Microsoft Office applications, particularly Excel, Word, and Outlook.
  • Skilled in using accounting software systems for data entry, financial reporting, and transaction processing.
  • Ability to learn and adapt quickly to new financial systems and technology platforms.
  • Ability to operate various office equipment, including computers and related software.
  • Ability to analyze volumes of data and identify problems/errors, and ability to correct or resolve them.
  • Ability to communicate well with customers, co-workers, and various business contacts in a positive and friendly manner, both verbally and in writing.
  • Ability to prioritize and multitask. Must be well organized, pay close attention to detail, and accept responsibility for assigned work.
  • Ability to work under occasional stress situations with frequent interruptions.
  • Ability to demonstrate dependability through good attendance and adherence to timelines and schedules.
  • Ability to maintain strict confidentiality guidelines in accordance with Company policy.
  • Ability to read and interpret a variety of instructions furnished in verbal, written, diagram, or schedule form.

Education and/or Experience:

Bachelor's degree in accounting, business administration, or equivalent combination of education and progressive accounting experience.

 

Certifications, Licenses, Registrations:

Must have, or be able to obtain, and maintain a valid South Dakota driver's license, have an excellent driving record, and be insurable under the Company's insurance policy.
