General Summary:

The Accounting Clerk is responsible for accounts payable functions and other general accounting duties. Performs accounts payable functions to include the reconciliation, authorization, coding, and payment of vendor invoices. Reconciles credit card purchases and bank statements. Performs accounts receivable duties to include daily deposit entry and review of accounts receivable balances. Processes monthly billing for Wholesale ISP accounts. Assists with other accounting functions to include payroll processing.

 

Essential Job Functions:

  • Uses generally accepted accounting principles and established internal controls to perform accounts payable duties.
  • Reconciles vendor invoices and verifies that proper approval processes have been followed.
  • Codes vendor invoices and inputs data into accounting software for payment and tracking.
  • Processes accounts payable payments in accounting software and secures payment approval ensuring invoices are paid according to due dates.
  • Reconciles Company credit card purchases.
  • Performs accounts receivable duties such as entry of cash transactions and review of accounts receivable balances.
  • Reconciles monthly bank statements.
  • Manages company cell phones and reconciles cell phone statements.
  • Processes monthly billing for Wholesale ISP accounts to include generating, mailing, and filing customer invoices and supporting documentation.
  • Assists in preparation and filing of required financial reports for compliance reporting.
  • Assists the Accountant with payroll processing and other payroll duties.
  • Works closely with and assists other department staff as needed.

  • Performs all other related duties as assigned by Management.

 

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

  • Basic knowledge of accounting principles and practices.
  • Knowledge of Company products and services.
  • Knowledge of Company policies and procedures.
  • Knowledge of accounts payable, payroll, and reconciliation policies, processes, and procedures.
  • Knowledge of general office procedures including basic bookkeeping practices.
  • Knowledge of Contact Management systems; Order processing systems; Spreadsheet software and Word Processing software.
  • Must have excellent written and oral communication skills.
  • Ability to maintain strict confidentiality in accordance with Company policy.
  • Ability to operate various office equipment such as personal computer, various software programs, and telephone systems.
  • Ability to be diplomatic and tactful in given situations.
  • Ability to communicate with customers, employees, and various business contacts in a professional and courteous manner.
  • Ability to organize and prioritize multiple work assignments.
  • Ability to pay close attention to detail.
  • Ability to make sound decisions using information at hand.
  • Ability to work independently and within a team.

 

Education and/or Experience:

Associate degree or equivalent from a two-year college or technical school or a minimum of 2 years’ experience in bookkeeping or accounting.

 

Certifications, Licenses, Registrations:

Must have, or be able to obtain, and maintain a valid South Dakota driver’s license, have an excellent driving record and be insurable under the Company’s insurance policy.

Working Conditions:

Good working conditions with the absence of disagreeable conditions. Climate controlled building with adequate lighting and space. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
