General Summary:

 

The Systems Administrator is a member of the internal IT team at Golden West which consists of support technicians and system administrators and is responsible for developing, deploying, securing, and maintaining the IT infrastructure for 300+ personnel across South Dakota. This infrastructure includes Windows and Linux Servers, VMware, and Hyper-V virtualization clusters, wired and wireless networking and cloud applications.

 

The Systems Administrators primary focus is to maintain and secure the company’s corporate computing platform. Duties include administration, set-up, maintenance, implementation, configuration, coordination, control, troubleshooting, security, and usage monitoring of IT systems, along with the development of specialized system procedures. Additionally, the Systems Administrator provides the monitoring, primary response and intervention for information technology related to security incidents and violations, along with disaster recovery. Maintains system documentation and logs, performs or assists in troubleshooting and diagnosing performance problems. The Systems Administrator is expected to keep current with new software, hardware, security and network monitoring technologies and IT best practices in order to further business process improvement.

 

 

Essential Job Functions:

 

  • Provides installation, maintenance and troubleshooting of IT systems, including server, storage, networking, backup, cybersecurity, cloud and applications to enable the achievement of operational goals.

     

  • Implements policies and procedures to ensure file and system integrity through backup and disaster recovery planning, along with security procedures.

     

  • Setup and maintenance of Active Directory infrastructure.

     

  • Administration, maintenance and troubleshooting of Office 365 infrastructure.
     

  • Setup and maintenance of SQL databases including users and backup/optimization maintenance plans.

  • Setup and maintenance of a Microsoft Remote Desktop Services deployment.

     

  • Researches, recommends and designs infrastructure for servers and associated systems.

     

  • Evaluates and recommends purchases of IT equipment and software.

     

  • Performs and/or oversees upgrades of server systems for the various departmental software applications.

     

  • Maintains and audits site licensing and required documentation for the organization.

     

  • Works as a team member with other technical staff to ensure connectivity and compatibility between systems.

     

  • Develops tools to support computer infrastructure and trains other departmental users in the use of new software or hardware systems.

     

  • Provides mentorship and coaching for junior team members in the Information Technology Department.

     

  • Maintains confidentiality.

     

  • After hours and weekends on-call support on a rotational basis.

 

  • Some travel is required for this position.

  • Performs all other related duties as assigned by Management.

     

     

    Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

     

  • Advanced knowledge of Microsoft server and desktops operating systems.

     

  • Knowledge of virtualization with VMware and Hyper-V.

 

  • Experience with Office 365 or Microsoft Exchange server administration.

  • Experience with MSSQL installation and maintenance.

     

  • Experience with Microsoft Remote Desktop Services.

     

  • Knowledge of Microsoft System Center Configuration Manager (SCCM).

     

  • Knowledge of LAN/WAN and wireless technologies.

     

  • Knowledge of core networking techniques.

     

  • Knowledge of backup solutions and techniques.

     

  • Experience installing and troubleshooting client/server applications.

     

  • Knowledge of Microsoft services including Active Directory, DNS, DHCP, and IIS.

     

  • Ability to solve problems and make good judgment calls.

     

  • Ability to set up and configure server infrastructure including RAID, iSCSI, SANs, clustering, and virtualization technologies.

     

  • Ability to troubleshoot and resolve infrastructure issues including web, disk, server, network, and database performance issues.

     

  • Ability to prioritize and complete multiple projects.

     

  • Ability to work with frequent interruptions in a fast-paced environment.

     

  • Ability to operate MS Office productivity applications and office equipment.

     

  • Ability to read, analyze, and interpret common technical journals.

     

 

Education and/or Experience:

 

Degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, Computer Engineering, and/or 5 years of experience in the IT field or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Must have direct experience with Microsoft computer operating systems and associated software. Advanced Microsoft and/or networking certifications preferred.

 

Certifications, Licenses, Registrations:

 

Must have, or be able to obtain, and maintain a valid South Dakota driver’s license, have an excellent driving record and be insurable under the Company’s insurance policy.

 

Other Qualifications and/or Credentials:

 

Advanced knowledge of networking infrastructure and large scale software installations and deployments.

Working Conditions:
