Be a part of an accounting team at South Dakota’s largest communications cooperative. This position offers large-company opportunities and challenges with a small-town feel. Located just 50 miles from Rapid City and the Black Hills and in the backyard of the Badlands, this position maintains financial records, assists with CABS-related activities, analyzes accounts and prepares internal and external financial statements and reports. Must have a bachelor’s degree in accounting or equivalent plus 5 years of accounting experience preferably in a regulated industry. CPA license is preferred.

General Summary:

 

This position is responsible for maintaining general and subsidiary ledgers and financial records in accordance with established guidelines and procedures. Assists in the preparation of financial statements in accordance with regulated utility accounting rules and generally accepted accounting principles. Prepares, or assists in preparing, various required external reports and internal management reports. Performs all types of accounting related functions including preparing and posting journal entries, accounts payable and accounts receivable processing, bank reconciliations, account analysis and some clerical duties in support of accounting functions. Assists in the coordination of CABS-related activities.

 

Essential Job Functions:

 

  • Maintains general and subsidiary ledgers and financial records, prepares and posts journal entries and performs account transaction analysis to ensure accuracy and compliance with established guidelines and procedures.
  • Prepares monthly CABS processing and reporting and reconciles subsidiary records.
  • Interacts with Interexchange Carriers and work to resolve tariff/contract issues.
  • Works with the CFO to ensure conformance with GAAP requirements related to areas such as revenue recognition and lease standards rules.
  • Assists in the preparation of monthly financial statements in accordance with generally accepted accounting standards.
  • Prepares various financial reports for use by management in assessing financial status of the Company.
  • Maintains inventory records by recording purchases, charge outs and physical inventory counts, aids in investigative material inventory differences, and reconciles general ledger and subsidiary records.
  • Maintains plant accounting records by investigating, adjusting, and closing completed work orders, maintain CPR’s, reconcile general ledger accounts and subsidiary records.
  • Assists in maintaining capital credit records and files to include allocations, retirements, communications and reporting.
  • Prepares and files required financial reports for taxing and regulatory bodies.
  • Maintains and updates various excel and other worksheets, daily, monthly or annually.
  • May collect money owed on unpaid accounts and insufficient funds checks as needed.
  • Maintains files, records and documents relating to accounting department including correspondence, invoices billing records, CABS data, etc.
  • Assists, compiles and prepares applicable financial information into reports for use by management in assessing financial status of the Company and assists with completion of regulatory filings (taxes, NECA, USF, etc.) and with preparation for the annual audit.
  • Work with regulatory entities as it relates to audits or data requests.

 

Other Responsibilities:

 

  • Performs all other related duties as assigned by Management.

 

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

 

  • Strong working knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles and 47 CFR Part 32 Uniform System of Accounts.
  • Ability to analyze volumes of data and identifying problems/errors, and ability to correct or resolve them.
  • Knowledge of Company services/products, policies and procedures.
  • Knowledge of general office procedures, practices and equipment.
  • Ability to adapt in a rapidly changing environment.
  • Knowledge and ability to operate various office equipment including computer and related software.
  • Ability to communicate well with customers, co-workers and various business contacts in a positive and friendly manner, both orally and in writing.
  • Ability to prioritize and multi-task. Must be well organized and pay close attention to detail and accept responsibility and work under occasional stressful situations with frequent interruptions.
  • Ability to demonstrate dependability through good attendance and adherence to timelines and schedules.
  • Ability to maintain strict confidentiality guidelines in accordance with Company policy.
  • Ability to read and interpret a variety of instructions furnished written, verbal and in diagram or schedule form.

  • Working ability to sit for long periods of time entering data at a computer.
  • Must live in Golden West Exchange.

 

Education and/or Experience:

 

Bachelor’s Degree in accounting or equivalent plus five years of accounting experience preferably in a regulated industry. CPA License is preferred.


Certifications, Licenses, Registrations:

 

Must have, or be able to obtain, and maintain a valid South Dakota driver’s license, have an excellent driving record and be insurable under the Company’s insurance policy.
